1. Need-based living assistance at Holberton Tulsa
The George Kaiser Family Foundation and the Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation offer need-based living assistance of $1,500/month to qualifying students (household income should not exceed $60,000/year) until the end of their studies (up to 24 months) at Holberton Tulsa school location.
How will the money be given to students?
The money will be wired to students once a month. For the January cohort, the first payment will be wired mid-January - 1/20/2020
How to apply & maintain your living assistance
The living assistance application will be available once you have applied and been accepted to Holberton School Tulsa.
To stay qualified for this living assistance, your grades must meet our performance threshold. The threshold is reaching the average score necessary to remain a student at Holberton School.
The living assistance is forgiven in full if a Holberton Tulsa alum works 42 months in Tulsa post Holberton. The living assistance will be forgiven beginning 12 months after graduation or 12months after a student finds an employment for which they would start paying back their ISA. The following schedule will be followed: 1242 of the living assistance balance will be forgiven upon the 12 month anniversary of graduation, and then proportionally 142 will be forgiven each month thereafter until the 42 months living in Tulsa are complete.
In the case an alum decides to work outside the city of Tulsa after graduation, this alum would pay back the living assistance in due time.
If a Holberton Tulsa alum that received the living assistance leaves the Tulsa area, they will pay back the amount borrowed minus any forgiven amount as mentioned above.
What happens when a student quits the program (withdraw or dismissed) ?
The student will have to reimburse the full amount of living assistance received.
Example: a student studies in Holberton Tulsa and receives the need-based living assistance but leaves the program or is dismissed at the 5 month mark. The students will have received $1,500 x 5 = $7,500.
When the students start earning more than $40,000/year, they will start paying their prorated tuition and their need based living assistance balance.

2. ISA DISCOUNT
Is the ISA in Tulsa 17% or 10%?
The Tuition in Tulsa is 17% over 3.5 years. However, ISA Paying students will receive a reduced repayment rate of 10% (a 7% reduction) on their ISA for the duration of their time in Tulsa. If a student who has studied at Holberton Tulsa starts paying their ISA while working in Tulsa, their ISA payment will be 10% as long as they reside in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Please note that the ISA cap in Tulsa is still 85k even if the discounted tuition is 10%.
Are Holberton Tulsa students receiving an ISA discount if they remain in Tulsa for a job opportunity?
ISA Paying students will receive a reduced repayment rate of 10% (a 7% reduction) on their ISA for the duration of their time in Tulsa. If a student who has studied at Holberton Tulsa starts paying their ISA while working in Tulsa, their ISA payment will be 10% as long as they reside in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Please note the student will only pay 10% but the full 17% will still count towards the ISA cap.
Who qualifies for Need-Based Living Assistance?
Students who have been accepted to Holberton Tulsa and who are meeting the selection criteria (household income less than $60,000 / year and who have demonstrated a need for assistance).
Who qualifies for the discounted ISA?
Everybody who studies at Holberton Tulsa and remains in Tulsa when paying their ISA tuition.
If someone qualifies for the discounted ISA, works in Tulsa for a year, then relocates to another city, what happens to their ISA?
The year of working in Tulsa will be discounted, any time not spent in Tulsa is priced regularly.
Can a student benefit from both the NBLA (need-based living assistance) and the Discounted ISA?
Is there an application process for the Discounted ISA?
No - the Holberton Tulsa students must remain in Tulsa for an employment opportunity to claim the 10% ISA.
Are the conditions of the Discounted ISA different from the Need-based living assistance?
Yes. The need-based living assistance has a selection process. The discounted ISA is for all holberton Tulsa students who reside in Tulsa during their ISA payment period.
If a student who is enrolled in NHV or SF wants to seek work in Tulsa, do they qualify for the reduced ISA?
If a student who was accepted in September, needs to restart their trimester in January, can they move to Tusla and qualify for need based living assistance or discounted ISA?
Yes - if they meet the need based living assistance selection criteria
Can a student transfer to Tulsa for Specialization and benefit from need based living assistance or discounted ISA?
They can qualify for need based living assistance but will have already passed the 60% mark at their home campus and thus will only qualify for the need based living assistance, no new tuition ISA.
Since we are still in the 30 day window of the ISA, can a student in NHV or SF cancel their ISA and join Tulsa in January?
They would need to drop-out of their current program and ask to be moved to the Tulsa location.
What if a student who has been receiving the need based living assistance finds a qualifying job in Tulsa before finishing foundations year? Are they required to pay back the the need based living assistance?
No, if a student withdraws from the program before they complete the foundations year, but still continues to work in Tulsa, they do not need to pay back the need based living assistance.
What happens when a student accepted to Holberton Tulsa is transferred from the January 2020 cohort to the June 2020 cohort? Do they still receive the need based living assistance? Does it end at 24 months no matter if the student has not yet completed Holberton?
Tulsa CF may choose, at its discretion, to extend the number of months to provide living assistance.
